Business Studies

The impact of new technologies, concerns over the economy and its impact on business and consumers, conflict over scarce resources, the need for enterprise – all these issues brought to us by the media and which directly affect our lives, are studied within the Business Studies curriculum.

The Business Studies curriculum aims to provide students with a sound knowledge of business concepts and the opportunity to develop the ability to think as entrepreneurs. The department also aims to enhance students’ ability to use language, number and ICT to assist them in understanding and communicating business ideas and concepts as well as developing and enhancing enterprise and employability skills.

Students will learn about a wide range of topics including marketing, human resources, business ownership, production and finance.  There will be an opportunity to take part in a range of activities such as the Stock Market Challenge.

We encourage students to become independent learners and to use an enquiring, critical approach to distinguish facts and opinions, to build arguments and make informed judgements. Students consider how business and economic activity can be ethical and sustainable. They also begin to appreciate the perspectives of different stakeholders in relation to business and economic activity.
