Design Technology

"The promotion of all aspects of students' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development permeates the life of the Academy and helps to create the harmonious and cohesive learning community where all thrive."
(Ofsted July 2013)

Design Technology has proven itself to be one of the most dynamic and progressive curriculum areas within the school within the last year. Our team of teachers are all equipped with up to date industrial knowledge and use modern and exciting schemes of work throughout all year groups, in order to challenge their students. Students are engaged in innovative and challenging design and make tasks, which require students to use their problem solving skills and think outside of the box.

Students are taught through a range of differentiated learning resources and have in-depth presentations and demonstrations from staff in order to scaffold their learning. Students study a range of Design technology subjects, in order to aid their knowledge of designing, function of ingredients and materials and also their literacy and evaluate skills. Students are asked to reflect on design practice and actively engage in class discussion regarding design. Most importantly the design technology curriculum stretches students to think independently and problem solve in order to work in an ever changing work environment.
