Welcome to The Physical Education Department.

The next couple of years will realise extensive changes, innovations and creativity within the department of Physical Education. September 2010 will see the changes of the new National Curriculum for Physical Education. These changes will be supported by an expansion of the use of the school hall, 4 tennis courts, dance studio, playing fields, and greater access to Sir David English and Littledown leisure centre. These exciting developments require a PE team, curricular and extra curricular programme to challenge and stimulate all pupils. Participation in Physical Education and sport provides all pupils with the opportunity to develop valuable life skills based around team work, individualism, creative expression, healthy lifestyles, self esteem, experiencing different roles, meeting the needs of The National Curriculum, and developing an extensive extra curricular programme. The opportunity to experience certification PE will also be expanded for all pupils and an innovative reward system will be integral to complimenting the pupil progress. The National Curriculum will be addressed so that all pupils will the opportunity through effective teaching and learning to develop their levels of achievement and attainment at both Key Stages. These are truly exciting and rewarding times for all pupils involved in Physical Education.

It is an aspect that the department is keen to expand especially in supporting pupils with low self esteem, disaffected pupils and pupils with behavioural concerns. Such opportunities as:

  • Surfing

Have been open to our pupils. Special thanks must go to Mrs Liz Scott Partmer Development Officer for the SSCO’s who has been very supportive of the PE Department

Physical Education Kit

Every pupil is expected to wear full PE kit for each PE lesson in the week. We also have a policy for pupils who are sick or injured but in school to wear kit and become the teaching assistant. They will not take part in the physical activity but still play a role in the lesson.
