A Level Psychology

Why choose Psychology?

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. It seeks answers to such questions such as why do people behave the way they do? Would you be likely to help someone if they collapsed on an underground train? Are the brains of taxi drivers different from the brains of non-taxi drivers? Why do people develop phobias? Will children imitate aggressive behaviour? We look at issues such as how we remember and forget, causes of eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, how infants bond with their parents, how different parenting results in different behaviours, and the psychological and physiological causes and effects of stress (very useful information for hard pressed A Level students!)

How will I learn?

Psychology is an academic subject and will therefore require quiet reading, note-taking and essay writing. Lessons will be varied. Class activities could include discussions and debates; experiments; role-play; film clips and student presentations.
