Year 8 KS4 Options

Overview

At The Bishop of Winchester Academy we aim to offer a wide and varied curriculum to all our pupils regardless of their academic ability.   All pupils study English language and English literature, mathematics and either double award or separate sciences (according to their science ability).  As a faith school all pupils will also study GCSE religious studies.

For their Key Stage 4 options, pupils are allocated to one of three pathways according to their academic ability:

  • B Pathway: Pupils will study Spanish, choose from History or Geography, and will choose one subject from each of Option Block A and B.  This is to ensure that these pupils study the English Baccalaureate, the governments gold standard for a varied curriculum.
  • O Pathway: Pupils will choose from History or Geography, and will choose one subject from Option Blocks A, B and M.  Pupils will be able to choose to study Spanish in Block M if they wish.
  • W Pathway: Designed to offer intervention to pupils who need support to reach their potential, this pathway also vocational subjects to enrich and develop pupils confidence and personal skills.  Pupils have the same options as Pathway O with additional intervention options.
