Safeguarding

We recognise that the welfare of the child is paramount and we take our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in our care seriously.

All staff at the academy undertake annual safeguarding training.  This training is at the beginning of the academic year and then provided to any new staff or those who have been absent or on leave when they start or return to the academy.

Parents, contract workers and students can report safeguarding concerns directly to the Safeguarding Team on safeguarding@tbowa.org.

Operation Encompass

The academy is part of Operation Encompass.  This is a police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people who experience domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass means that the police will share information about domestic abuse indicants with us prior to the start of the next school day if they have been called to a domestic incident.  Schools hold on file any domestic abuse alert connected to any student in the school that happens between parents/carers

Our keys members of staff for this are:

Miss Tanya Faramus, Assistant Headteacher - Designated Safeguarding Lead

Mrs Laura Baldwin, Education Social Worker - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

Mrs Simmone Lewendon, Deputy Vice Principal - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

Language Schools - Safeguarding and host families

There are increasing concerns about the practice of a few unaccredited language school in the borough.  The council have worked with RALSA, a group of local accredited language schools, to produce a leaflet for parents/carers.  This is to make families aware of the safeguarding regulations relating to becoming a host family for others.

Volunteers and Visitors

All volunteers and visitors are provided with information which introduces them to the academy's policies and procedures for Child Protection and Safeguarding.  As part of their visit they will be expected to read this information summary.

We use the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to undertake criminal record checks.  The The School Staffing (England) Regulations 2009 make it mandatory for an enhanced criminal record check to be obtained for all newly appointed staff.  Parents, Governors and other volunteers who help regularly within the academy or its activities will require a DBS check.

Allegations against our staff
