BTEC Art and Design

Why choose Art and Design?

BTEC is a qualification in which students focus on work-related art, as well as being flexible enough to include personally expressive art work. It is a nationally recognised and respected qualification in the Art and Design world, and has a very wide and exciting range of units covering all aspects of Art and Design. Assignments set will include elements of: Design crafts, Fine Art, Graphic design, Photography, Textiles. There will be some opportunities to select specific approaches appropriate to the interests of the student as the course develops. Practical necessities and timetabling will inevitably limit this provision, but we aim to include as many as is practicable.

BTEC Art and Design is suitable for students who have a real enthusiasm for studying art and are keen to work within a framework of coursework based modules, which have some flexibility and personalised focus.

Students can choose to study the Foundation Diploma, equivalent to 1.5 A Levels or the Extended Diploma, equivalent to 3 A Levels.

How will I learn?

In lessons you will be mostly producing varied art works and unit based projects, some of which will be thematic based, some of which will be technique driven, experimenting with media and materials in Art and Design. You will build a portfolio of practical artwork, which will comprise observation based drawing, unit projects, final pieces, large scale works, sketchbooks containing development and research work, and some written work and presentations.
