Academy Day

When undergoing transition into Secondary school, one of the biggest challenges is adapting to a new environment involving changing classrooms for each lesson. At the Bishop of Winchester Academy, our day is structured into 5 lessons, each an hour long, a half hour mentor time and two half hour breaks (one on Friday).

Breaks and lunches (Canteen)

Our canteen is known as The Hungry Bishop. We serve a range of hot and cold meals including sandwiches and baguettes and a range of snacks. Our canteen works on a cashless system where the students use their student cards to pay for their food each day. In September, students will be issued with a card which can be used for the canteen or printing resources. Parents will receive a login to Squid, where you can add funds to your child’s account.

The Hungry Bishop leads onto the Rose Garden. This is a Year 7 only space where your child can spend their break and lunchtime enjoying the outdoors. The Head of Year 7 is on duty in this area to provide support and guidance for the Year 7’s throughout the year.

Lockers

Lockers are situated all around the academy site. Students have access to their lockers, before school, during break and lunch and after school. Lockers are useful to the students as they can use them to sort their PE kits and any additional school resources needed throughout the day.

10:10 Programme

Our 10:10 enrichment programme offers a range of activities for students to take part in after school. At the start of each term students will be issued with an enrichment programme where they can choose which enrichments they would like to join. The enrichment programme covers a wide variety of subjects, where there is something to suit everyone. Students will be asked to complete a form at the beginning of each term to register their interest for the after school club. More details about this programme will follow at the start of term.
