Year 6 Virtual Transition

Transition from Primary to Secondary school can be an unnerving experience. Although we are not able to offer you an in person transition day, we have put together a timetable of recorded lessons to follow so that you are able to experience what transition day at ‘The Bishop’ would have been like. Your primary schools may be working with you on this and may give you the opportunity to complete the lessons as part of your primary school day. This can be completed during school hours or at home depending on your primary school's participation in our programme. If you are not able to complete this transition day with your primary school then you can complete the sessions at home at your own pace. Please look at the sample timetable and information below:

'You are Awesome'

Book reading

Before you complete the first ‘You are Awesome’ lesson you will need to read up to page 45.

English

This session covers reading chapter 8 of Oliver Twist and completing comprehension questions.

Session 6

'You are Awesome' lesson

The lesson discusses attitudes towards life, successes and how to approach thinking about secondary school.

Some sessions may require extra resources. Please ensure you have a pen, paper, the 'You are Awesome' book and workbook with you before you start. Please see the information below on what to do:

Session One — 9:9

For this session you will be completing a series of questions that link to the book 'A Monster Calls'. You will be studying this book when you start in September. The 9:9 reading programme will be completed during mentor sessions at the start of the day. You will need to look carefully at the questions and follow the teacher's explanations. You will need to click on this link during the session to watch a video:

 Please pause the video when instructed or when you are asked to answer a question to give yourself enough time to write everything down. 

Session Two — Maths

During this session you will be looking at a series of mathematical terms and 2D shapes. You will be asked to look at the properties of 2D shapes and put your knowledge to the test. Please pause the video when instructed or when you are asked to answer a question to give yourself enough time to write everything down. 

Session Three — Science

During this session you will be completing a simple science experiment. You will need the following resources: red, blue & yellow pens/ something circular to draw around e.g. cup, bowl, compass/ ruler/ string/ scissors. If you are unable to find the resources, you are still able to follow the lesson and see Miss Rendell and Miss Jose demonstrate the experiment. You can then follow up with the RAG questions and success check toward the end of the lesson. Please pause the video when instructed or when you are asked to answer a question to give yourself enough time to write everything down. Session Four — 'You are Awesome' Reading Task

Please read up to page 45 in your 'You are Awesome' book. Read this at your own pace and make sure you take your time to take everything in. You will need this information in the first session of the 'You are Awesome' series.

Session Five — English

In this session you will be following a year 7 English class as they read a chapter from the book 'Oliver Twist'. You will be following the teacher as they teach the lesson and be asked to complete the tasks as you go along.

Session Six — 'You are Awesome' 

You will complete the first session of the 'You are Awesome' series. Please use your workbook to complete the lesson as you go along. Session 2 – 8 are on the 'You are Awesome' project page on our website. You can then complete these as and when you wish to do so.
